Kolkata, April 12 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned IPS officer Gaurav Lal and businessman Joy Kamdar in connection with its investigation and raids at the house of Sona Pappu alias Biswajit Poddar, who runs several syndicates in different areas of Kasba and Ballygunge in Kolkata, a senior central probe official said on Sunday.

Gaurav Lal was the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, who is now deputed in Howrah Police.

The ED searched Sona Pappu's house on April 1. On that day, the house of businessman Joy Kamdar was also searched where huge sums of money was also recovered.

This time, Joy Kamdar has also been summoned.

A total of eight places were searched on April 1.

The ED claimed in a statement that nearly Rs 1 crore 47 lakh was seized during the ED searches.

Gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 67 lakh 64 thousand was also recovered.

A Fortuner car used by Sona Pappu was seized during the ED raid.

Along with this, a revolver was seized, on which 'Made in USA' was written.

The ED sources said that the weapons were handed over to the police to ensure 'free, transparent, and fearless' Assembly elections in West Bengal.

The ED started investigating Sona Pappu based on several FIRs filed by the West Bengal and the Kolkata police.

Cases have also been registered against Sona Pappu under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959.

The police are looking for Sona Pappu in the Kankulia clash incident as well.

There are also allegations of money laundering against him, who is now absconding.

The ED had sent Sona Pappu summons but he did not appear before its officials.

Meanwhile, he came 'live' on the social media and claimed that his wife and elderly father were 'tortured' during the ED raids.

Sona Pappu's name is involved in the Rabindra Sarovar clash incident.

He has not been arrested in this incident yet.

According to ED sources, several FIRs have been filed against Sona Pappu.

There are various allegations against him, including extortion and threats.

Based on that FIR, the ED summoned him.
