Kolkata, Jan 22 A purported video of the vandalisation of a Radha-Krishna idol in Rangapur village under Harischandrapur block of West Bengal's Malda district has gone viral.

In the video, the idols of Radha-Krishna and five other idols, including that of Gaur-Nitai, could be seen broken into pieces and dumped in a mango orchard.

IANS, however, could not check the authenticity of the video.

The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, shared the video on his official social media handle on Thursday.

He claimed that the incident occurred on Wednesday night, and the matter came to the notice of the local villagers while they came for worship.

"In West Bengal, Hindus' temples and Hindu deities are being repeatedly attacked under the misrule of the Mamata government," Adhikari said in his social media post.

He also accused the Mamata Banerjee government of being conspicuously indifferent to a series of attacks on Hindu temples and deities in West Bengal for a considerable period of time, which had now made the offenders desperate and carefree.

"Due to the indifference of Mamata Banerjee's administration in such incidents and the failure to find and impose exemplary punishment on the culprits, such attacks on the Hindu faith are increasing day by day," the leader of the opposition claimed.

According to him, in the crucial Assembly election in West Bengal scheduled later this year, Hindu voters in the state will hold the Chief Minister accountable for this, since they know that if Trinamool Congress returns to power again, their conditions would be like those of Hindus in Bangladesh.

For quite some time, the leader of the opposition had been quite consistent in highlighting events of such vandalism at Hindu temples and destruction of idols and bringing such matters to the notice of the administration, with the incident at Malda being his latest effort.

At the time the report was filed, there was no reaction either from the Trinamool Congress or the Malda district administration in the matter.
