"We have filed an FIR and are investigating the complaint lodged by Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) dean H.S. Satish," Visveswarapuram Assistant Commissioner of Police Vali Basha told .

Basha said the police are searching for nearly 30 unnamed KRV members who confronted BMCRI duty doctor Neerja on Karnataka Rajyostava Day for failing to speak in Kannada language.

Basha said the police are collecting the cctv footage as part of the investigations.

On Friday, a group of KRV members visited the BMCRI on behalf of some patients who lost their vision in a botched eye operation at the hospital a couple of months ago.

"The KRV members were looking for a responsible senior doctor to answer their questions. The superintendent of the hospital was on leave owing to Karnataka Rajyotsava Day," Basha said.

As no senior doctor was available, the KRV members questioned the duty doctor and post graduate student Neerja who replied to them in English.

"The KRV members took offence to Neerja speaking to them in English on Karnataka Rajyostava day and mobbed around her, leading to a heated argument," said Basha.

Meanwhile, responding to a phone call from the hospital, the police entered the scene to separate the doctors, who came in support of their colleague, and the KRV members.

Basha said the doctors have complained that these kind of attacks on them have become a regular feature and have launched a protest, shutting down out patient services.

All the resident doctors belonging to Minto Eye Hospital, Trauma and Emergency Care Centre and Victoria Hospitals have launched protests.
