New Delhi [India], April 30 : The gender ratio has improved in Haryana as a result of many campaigns like 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' and 'Selfie With Daughter', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday in the 100th episode of its monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat'.

The Prime Minister also credited Haryana-based Sunil Jaglan for the 'Selfie With Daughter' campaign and said that the importance of having a daughter in one's life comes to the fore through his campaign.

"Sunil Jaglan ji has created an impact because earlier there used to be a lot of discussion on the Gender Ratio in Haryana", the PM said.

"I started the campaign 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' from Haryana itself. The 'Selfie with Daughter' campaign influenced me a lot and I mentioned it in my episode. Soon this 'Selfie with Daughter' campaign turned into a global campaign. The motive of this campaign was to make people understand the importance of a daughter in one's life", the PM said.

PM Modi then also thanked the activist Sunil Jaglan for bringing the 'Selfie with Daughter' campaign to life and making it a success in the spirit of 'Beti-Padhao, Beti-Bachao.'

"When I came across Sunil Ji's 'Selfie With Daughter' campaign, I felt very happy. It was not about the selfie, nor technology, importance was accorded to the daughter. The importance of a daughter in life also comes to the fore through this campaign. The result of many such efforts is that today the gender ratio has improved in Haryana," the PM said.

PM Modi's monthly radio programme completed its 100th episode today, aired at 11 am live across the country.

The programme, which started on October 3, 2014, has become a key pillar of the government's citizen-outreach programme addressing multiple social groups such as women, youth, and farmers and has spurred community action.

Apart from 22 Indian languages and 29 dialects, Mann Ki Baat is broadcast in 11 foreign languages including French, Chinese, Indonesian, Tibetan, Burmese, Baluchi, Arabic, Pashtu, Persian, Dari and Swahili. Mann Ki Baat is being broadcast by more than 500 broadcast centres of All India Radio.
