BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari was leading at the time of writing this report against All India Trinamool Congress candidate and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in early trends on Monday, May 4, from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.
The counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 continues. Adhikari, a former aide of the TMC leader Banerjee, was in shock as the West Bengal CM was trailing in Bhabanipur.
In the build-up to this election, Adhikari went after Banerjee again, this time announcing his candidature from the family bastion of Nandigram and Bhabanipur too.

Suvendu Adhikari offered prayers at the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, said, "God is with us. A government that protects the interests of Sanatan Dharma is coming."
As per the early trends, highlights 8.45 am: the BJP is leading in 45 seats against TMC after postal ballot counting. TMC was leading in 31 and Congress in two seats.
