Former BJP MP from Bhopal, Alok Sanjar on Thursday visited the incident spot at Khatlapura Ghat and termed the mishap as a result of district administration's carelessness.

"This incident is extremely saddening. This is a result of the district administration's carelessness. Nobody was there at the spot to check and stop 20-20 people riding on one boat. The administration people should have stopped them from doing that," said Sanjar.

"Such incidents occur almost every year but we do not learn any lesson from these mishaps. District administration people should have been deployed here last night. There were no life jackets and safety arrangements here, which highlights the level of carelessness," he added.

An ex-gratia of Rs four lakh has been announced by the district collector for the families of those who drowned and died during the Ganesh immersion in Bhopal today morning.

"Despite proper security arrangements, this incident took place so we will investigate the matter and try to find out the reason behind this mishap. Collector has announced an ex-gratia of Rs four lakh for the kin of those drowned and died," said PC Sharma, MP Law Minister.

At least 11 bodies have been recovered and six people have been rescued till now, at Khatlapura Ghat.
