The area bordering Nepal and West Bengal and connecting to Northeast India is known as the border area of Bihar. This part is considered to be important from the point of view of politics. This is because Purnia has 35 per cent, Katihar 45 per cent, Araria 51 per cent and Kishanganj 70 per cent Muslim voters.

The AIMIM is contesting in 20 out of 243 Assembly seats in Bihar. Seemanchal has 24 Assembly seats, and the AIMIM is contesting in 14 here. Now, according to the election results, Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has disturbed the entire maths of the Mahagathbandhan in 24 seats in Seemanchal. As a result, out of these 24 seats, Mahagathbandhan has bagged only 5 seats while the NDA is leading with 11 seats. Owaisi's AIMIM party is leading by three seats.

Seemanchal area comprises the districts of Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj. It has a large Muslim population that has traditionally voted for the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress.

Considering the trends of Bihar election results, the battle is only between the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan.

However, in this election, Owaisi factor is proving to have benefitted the NDA. Owaisi's party has also been targetting the Mahagathbandhan more than the incumbent NDA, accusing the RJD, Congress and others of neglecting the region.

Supporters of the Mahagathbandhan have accused Owaisi of taking Muslim votes away from them — a move that, they said, will ultimately favour the Bharatiya Janata Party.
