A part of an under-construction bridge collapsed on  Friday, March 22, near Maricha between Bheja-Bakaur in Bihar. Further details awaited. According to the reports, a person was killed, and several workers were trapped under the fallen portion of the bridge which was being built over the Kosi River. 

"One died and nine were injured as a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed near Maricha between Bheja-Bakaur," said Supaul DM Kaushal Kumar.

This is not the first time an accident related to a bridge under construction has happened in Bihar, many such incidents have been reported before. Rescue work is underway. More details are awaited.

According to the NDTV report, the collapsed portion of the under-construction bridge involved a cost of over Rs 1,700 crore and was supposed to be completed by 2019. The foundation stone of the structure was laid in February 2014, by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar said senior administration officers were at the spot where the incident took place, near Maricha between Bakur and Bheja. ''One labourer has died and another sustained injuries. Rescue work is underway,'' he said.
