The Pipa Bridge connecting Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over the Ganga River broke into three parts on Thursday evening, April 10, due to a sudden storm and harsh weather in the Arrah district of Bihar. This resulted in disruption in train operations on the Howrah–Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay railway section. Strong thunderstorms and heavy rain wreaked havoc across Bihar and the border regions with UP.

Train services along the Howrah–Pandit Deendayal route were halted for over an hour due to the storm. The disruption occurred around one kilometre ahead of Tudinganj station in Buxar district. High winds caused large sheets of polythene to become entangled in the overhead electric wires, first affecting the down line and then the up line. As a result, passenger trains on both sides came to a stop. Passengers disembarked and gathered to assess the situation. Eventually, the train drivers managed to remove the plastic sheets using sticks, and services resumed after approximately one hour.

Another Bridge Collapse in Bihar

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the Pipa Bridge connecting Bihar and Uttar Pradesh over the Ganga River in Arrah was severely damaged. The bridge, a crucial link for road transport, was torn into three sections due to the force of the storm. Traffic movement came to a complete standstill, affecting both rail and road connectivity.

Although train operations were restored after an hour, the Pipa Bridge remains out of service. No official statement or concrete steps have been taken yet regarding its repair. As a result, the vital link between Bihar and Ballia (Uttar Pradesh) through the Ganga has been severed once again, causing major inconvenience for commuters and transport services.
