Patna, Feb 11 A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), facing serious charges, surrendered before the Bhagalpur court on Tuesday for blackmailing and sexually exploiting a woman.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Lavkush Kumar, subsequently sent him to judicial custody.

The accused officer, DSP Somesh Kumar Mishra, was posted as Gaya Headquarters DSP in 2020 when allegations were first levelled against him.

While he had initially secured bail, his repeated absence from court hearings led to the cancellation of his bail bond and the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2025, DSP Somesh Mishra surrendered in Bhagalpur court. During the hearing, he attempted to justify his absence by stating that he had been on duty at the Pitru Paksha fair and was unable to attend the court proceedings.

However, the court rejected his argument and remanded him to judicial custody.

The case against DSP Somesh Mishra dates back to 2020 when a woman filed a complaint against him at the Bhagalpur Mahila Police Station.

She alleged that the DSP blackmailed and sexually exploited her multiple times. Following the complaint, Mishra was arrested from Sahebganj, Jharkhand.

After an investigation, the charges against him were proven, leading to his suspension by the Bihar Police Headquarters.

According to the victim, when Somesh Mishra was in Delhi, he lured her and sexually assaulted her, recording the act on video. He then used the video to blackmail her repeatedly.

Even after the victim got married, Mishra allegedly continued to threaten her. Unable to bear the harassment, she finally approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for February 17, 2025. With his bail bond already cancelled, DSP Somesh Kumar Mishra now remains in judicial custody as the case progresses.
