Patna, May 2 A shocking incident of murder in the heart of Patna has triggered widespread outrage after criminals broke into a house in the Lalbagh area under Pirbahore police station limits and attacked a couple in the early hours of Saturday.

In the attack, 30-year-old Mohammad Nawaz was killed, while his wife, Nazia Parveen, sustained critical stab injuries.

She was immediately rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment and remains in a critical condition.

The accused fled the scene after carrying out the crime.

The brutal incident sparked anger among locals.

On Saturday evening, hundreds of residents staged a massive protest on Ashok Rajpath, placing the victim’s body on the road and setting objects on fire.

The demonstration caused severe traffic disruption in the area.

Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the strictest possible punishment.

They also called upon Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to ensure justice for the victim’s family.

Locals expressed strong dissatisfaction with the police response, alleging that no senior officials visited the crime scene despite the seriousness of the incident.

A protester said the victim’s family deserved justice, adding that his wife was battling for her life at Patna Medical College and Hospital and must receive proper treatment, and that the accused must be arrested and punished severely.

The incident occurred in Lalbagh, located along Ashok Rajpath.

According to an official of Pirbahore police station, Mohammad Nawaz was a tenant living on the third floor of a house owned by Sarfaraz Alam.

The attackers climbed up to the third floor and attacked with knives inside his room.

Nawaz worked as a salesman at a mall in Patna.

The victim’s elder brother has alleged that the crime may be linked to prior harassment.

He claimed that a young man had been harassing a girl from their family during her commute to school.

“Just a day before the incident, he threw stones at our house. We caught him and tried to reason with him. After that confrontation, he carried out this murder,” the brother alleged.

Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. Soon after, a large number of people gathered and carried the body to Ashok Rajpath, where they blocked the road and staged a protest demanding swift police action.
