A wedding ritual in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor took a violent turn when a dispute over the traditional shoe-stealing ceremony led to a physical altercation and police intervention. The incident occurred during the wedding of Sabir, who had arrived from Dehradun in Uttarakhand with his wedding procession. As part of the ceremony, the bride's sister hid the groom's shoes and demanded Rs 50,000 in return. The groom offered Rs 5,000, which allegedly angered the bride’s side, and some friends of the bride called him a beggar. Hearing this, Sabir and his family started leaving the wedding venue before he was held hostage by the bride's family.

According to reports, the situation escalated when members of the bride's family—including her brother, uncle, and cousin—allegedly assaulted members of the groom’s side. The groom claimed that they were beaten with sticks and punched, and several members of his family were injured. The police arrived at the scene and brought both parties to the station for questioning. Eventually, a compromise was reached, and the wedding rituals resumed.

Meanwhile, the bride’s brother claimed the conflict intensified after the groom’s brother allegedly said, “You didn’t give us any gold.” He further stated, “How could we send our sister when the groom’s brother threatened her?” The situation is currently under control, and no formal charges have been filed.
