Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to reply to the discussion on the President’s Address in Parliament on Wednesday (February 4). However, continuous sloganeering and disruptions by opposition members led to repeated adjournments, preventing the Prime Minister from delivering his response. Following this chaos, BJP MP Saumitra Khan made a sensational allegation, claiming that there was an attempt by the Congress to physically attack Prime Minister Modi inside the Lok Sabha. News agency ANI, citing sources, reported that there was clear intelligence suggesting a plan to target the Prime Minister during the proceedings. It was also claimed that women MPs were deliberately positioned in front of him as part of this strategy.

This unprecedented situation unfolded as Prime Minister Modi was expected to conclude the two-day debate on the President’s Address on Wednesday evening. Even before his speech could begin, opposition members intensified protests, reportedly over issues linked to former Army Chief General Naravane’s book. The commotion escalated rapidly, with women MPs moving closer to the Prime Minister’s seat. According to sources quoted by ANI, it was the first time in parliamentary history that the Prime Minister’s reply to the President’s Address could not take place. Despite the Prime Minister being present and prepared to speak, the Lok Sabha Speaker was forced to adjourn the House due to security concerns.

The Lok Sabha eventually passed the motion of thanks on the President’s Address without Prime Minister Modi’s speech. Reacting strongly, BJP MP Saumitra Khan told a news channel that the opposition’s behaviour suggested a deliberate conspiracy to harm the Prime Minister. He alleged that opposition MPs were moving from their usual seating positions towards Modi with malicious intent. Khan claimed that since the opposition has lost political relevance, it has resorted to extreme actions. He criticised the conduct of opposition parties, stating that crossing over from the left side of the House was inappropriate and dangerous, and accused them of plotting a direct attack on the Prime Minister.
