Jaipur, April 17 Panic gripped parts of Ajmer after a liquor businessman Jitendra Rangwani received a death threat along with an extortion demand of Rs 2 crore, allegedly from members of the Rohit Godara gang.
The threats were reportedly made through WhatsApp calls and voice messages. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, said officials on Friday.
According to reports, the threat was received on Thursday at around 4:00 P.M. when Rangwani was at a salon in Bhagwanganj for a haircut.
He received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number. When he did not answer, the caller sent threatening voice messages and made repeated calls. The caller allegedly identified himself as Rahul Fatehpuria and Virendra Charan, claiming association with the Rohit Godara gang, which is believed to have links with the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.
The miscreants demanded Rs 2 crore and warned Rangwani of dire consequences if he failed to comply.
In the messages, the accused also issued a chilling warning, threatening that Rangwani could meet the same fate as Ramesh Rulania, who was shot dead in a high-profile case in Kuchaman in October 2025.
The threatening tone and specific references indicated that the criminals were closely monitoring his movements.
Following the complaint, police officials including SP Harshvardhan Agarwala and other senior officers have started a probe.
A case has been registered at Haribhau Upadhyay Nagar Police Station, and security has been tightened for Rangwani, with an armed constable deployed for his protection.
Ajmer SP, Harshvardhan Agrawala said, “Victim Jitendra Rangwani has received a threatening call in the name of Rohit Godara. A ransom of Rs 2 crore has been demanded in the threat. However, considering the victim’s security, one armed constable has already been deployed. A police team has been constituted and necessary action has been directed.”
Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the salon, Rangwani’s residence, and his business premises.
The cyber cell has also been roped in to trace the origin of the WhatsApp calls, which are suspected to have been made using virtual or international numbers.
This incident adds to a growing list of extortion threats targeting prominent individuals in Ajmer.
Earlier, YouTuber Dilraj Singh Rawat, popularly known as ‘Mr. Indian Hacker,’ and businessman Vijay Singh Palada had also reportedly received similar threats.
Police officials have assured that the accused will be identified soon and strict action will be taken. The incident has, however, heightened concerns among the business community and political circles in the region.
