Chennai, April 9 With the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election scheduled for April 23, political rhetoric has intensified across the state, with political leaders sharpening their campaign narratives ahead of the polling day.
Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad on Thursday asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the AIADMK and the BJP, is poised for a decisive victory, claiming the alliance could secure more than 200 seats in the 234-member State Assembly.
The NDA in Tamil Nadu comprises AIADMK, BJP, PMK, AMMK, Tamil Maanila Congress and other regional partners, and is contesting against the ruling DMK-Congress alliance.
Actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and Seeman's Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) are also in the fray, making it a multi-cornered contest.
However, BJP Spokesperson Prasad said that the real electoral battle is essentially bipolar, between the NDA and the DMK-led alliance.
He urged voters seeking a change in the government to consolidate their votes behind the NDA, saying that votes cast for smaller parties such as TVK and NTK would not effectively contribute to defeating the ruling DMK-led front.
Campaigning has gathered pace following the completion of nominations and the release of the final list of candidates.
According to BJP Spokesperson Prasad, early political trends and opinion polls indicate growing public sentiment against the DMK government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The BJP leader alleged that the DMK government has been marked by corruption, administrative inefficiency, and what he described as "family-centric governance".
He also criticised the DMK-led alliance's poll strategy, claiming that its reliance on multiple smaller parties reflects internal uncertainty.
Highlighting governance issues, BJP leader Prasad pointed to alleged corruption in civic administration and delays in public services.
He also claimed that there is increasing public dissatisfaction with the current state administration's performance.
The NDA, he said, is campaigning on a platform of governance reform, development, and administrative transparency, while positioning itself as a credible alternative to the ruling DMK alliance.
