Kolkata, April 16 The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday approached the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing the Trinamool Congress of systematically disseminating defamatory, manipulated and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The BJP alleged that the content of the videos was fabricated, distorted and deliberately structured to create false impressions, with the intent of misleading voters and influencing electoral perception through deception.

The party also requested the Commission to immediately direct the Trinamool Congress to take down the videos from all social media platforms and issue a show-cause notice to the ruling party.

In another complaint filed with the Commission, the BJP accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of making misleading, false and inflammatory public statements about electronic voting machines (EVMs) and VVPAT machines.

In this complaint, the BJP alleged that the Chief Minister made statements claiming that the BJP was attempting to manipulate the electoral process with the help of the ECI.

“She also specifically claimed that in the event of malfunctioning of EVMs and VVPAT machines, election officials would not replace the machines but would instead ‘insert a chip’ into them, and that voters would be made to wait during such manipulation,” the complaint letter stated.

The BJP requested the Commission to initiate appropriate action against the Chief Minister for making such allegations and to issue a directive restraining her from making further false and misleading statements regarding EVMs and VVPATs.

The West Bengal unit of the BJP also filed a third complaint with the ECI on Thursday over an alleged attack on the convoy of the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, by Trinamool Congress workers at Bally in Howrah district on Wednesday evening, while he was conducting a campaign roadshow.

In the letter, the BJP stated that in recent days there had been multiple incidents in West Bengal wherein BJP leaders and workers were physically assaulted in Kolkata and adjoining districts, prevented from conducting lawful campaign activities, subjected to intimidation, threats and vandalism of party materials, and denied adequate police protection despite prior information and permissions.

The BJP requested the Commission to immediately direct the registration of FIRs against all those involved in the Bally incident and ensure strict deployment of central armed police forces (CAPF) in sensitive areas to guarantee a level playing field.
