In her written complaint to the police, she alleged long-term domestic violence and said her in-laws have been trying to drive her out of the household.

Reena claimed her father-in-law and brother-in-law secretly filmed her while she was bathing. When she objected, she was beaten with the butt of a rifle by her father-in-law.She further alleged that as she attempted to escape, her brother-in-law attacked her with an iron rod on the street, leaving her wounded. The footage has triggered strong reactions locally and increased pressure on the police to act.The complainant, identified as Reena Rajput, has been married in Rani Avantibai Nagar of Etah for 17 years."I have two daughters, so my in-laws beat me up. They have been torturing me for a long time and for some reason they want to get rid of me," complainant Reena Rajput, sister of BJP MP Mukesh Rajput, alleged.

She further claimed that when the bad treatment by her in-laws did not bear any fruit, they filmed a video of her when she was having a bath. "As soon as I objected, they came out and beat me up in front of everyone. They beat me a lot with sticks and lathis (canes) and also beat my daughter," Reena said.According to the complaint, the assault took place in the presence of several people in the neighbourhood but no one stepped forward to help her.Following the circulation of the video online, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
