Chandigarh, May 13 Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Punjab government over the state’s law and order situation, alleging that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was indulging in "accusation and counter-accusation politics" instead of addressing public concerns.

Speaking to IANS, Chugh claimed that Punjab was facing a serious law and order crisis and accused the state government of failing to curb crime and violence.

"The whole of Punjab is in a law-and-order crisis, and Bhagwant Mann, instead of addressing it, is indulging in accusation and counter-accusation politics," he said.

The BJP leader further alleged that the Punjab Chief Minister was attempting to hide his "incompetence" by targeting media houses and YouTubers.

"Punjab CM is hiding his incompetence and silencing media houses and YouTubers. He is making false accusations. There have been 22 blasts at police stations, a rocket launcher attack on the Punjab Police Headquarters happened, attacks on religious sites have happened, and police personnel have been killed. Law and order have completely failed," Chugh claimed.

He also alleged that the drug mafia was operating unchecked in the state and accused the government of institutionalising corruption.

"The drug mafia is unchecked, and corruption has been institutionalised. The people of Punjab are anguished and will respond to this government," he added.

Commenting on the recent attack outside the residence of singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s manager, Chugh termed the incident "sad" and said strict action would be taken against those responsible.

"The incident is sad. The culprits will not be spared," he said.

Reacting to Bhagwant Mann’s allegation that pressure was being mounted on Diljit Dosanjh to join politics, Chugh challenged the Punjab Chief Minister to present evidence.

"I would like to ask Bhagwant Mann to provide proof. He was not able to do so last time. Either give proof or stop making false claims," he said.

Referring to Diljit Dosanjh’s past interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chugh added, "Diljit Dosanjh himself tweeted after meeting PM Narendra Modi, and videos have been released by him. Who is putting pressure? Stop daydreaming."

On the NEET examination paper leak issue, the BJP leader said the Central government had already initiated a probe.

"The government has started a CBI inquiry. The culprits will be prosecuted strictly. No one will be spared," he said.

Speaking on Prime Minister Modi’s recent appeal regarding economic self-restraint and reducing dependence on foreign products, Chugh said the country had adequate reserves and citizens should prioritise domestic goods.

"The whole country is ready and has sufficient reserves. Foreign goods should be used less and domestic products more. The nation must follow self-control, as called for by the Prime Minister. Everyone welcomes this," he said.

In an apparent swipe at critics, Chugh added, "Those dancing to the tunes of Pakistan or a foreign toolkit cannot be stopped."
