Chandigarh Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit said that the city have moved to 11th position from the 66th position in Swachh Survekshan Rankings. During his press conference, he said, "First rank in the country in school education and the best UT with the Crime and Criminal Tracking system..."

Last year, Chandigarh was awarded the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023 for the Best Safaimitra Surakshit Sheher. The Swachh Survekshan Rankings consider Clean Cities, Cleanest Cantonments, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Ganga Towns, and Best Performing Cities. In 2023, the cleanest city award showcased joint winners. Port city Surat bagged the top honours alongside Indore, which had conquered the top spot alone for six consecutive years. Meanwhile, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh won the top three awards for Best Performing State.
