Chaos broke out at Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s public event in Gandhinagar on Friday, her first appearance since being attacked earlier this week. A man reportedly shouted slogans against the chief minister during the event. NDTV reported that the accused created a ruckus after an argument with traders. Security personnel removed him from the venue. Gandhinagar MLA Arvind Singh Lovely was present when the incident took place.

The disruption came two days after Gupta was attacked at her official residence in Civil Lines during a Jan Sunvai programme. The attacker, identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya from Rajkot, handed some papers to the chief minister, raised a court-related issue, and then allegedly slapped her. He was overpowered by Gupta’s security personnel.

Media reports said Sakariya’s mother told police that he was upset over the Supreme Court’s verdict directing stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to be relocated to shelters. She also claimed her son was mentally unstable. Sakariya’s relative is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Following the incident, Gupta was given Z-category security. CRPF commandos have been deployed for her protection.

The attacker was sent to a five-day police remand on Thursday. Delhi Police registered an attempt to murder case against the 41-year-old and are questioning him to determine the motive.
