Notorious gangster Aman Sahu, who posed a significant threat to law and order in Jharkhand, was killed in a police encounter on Tuesday morning in Andhari Dhoda, Chainpur, Palamu. Sahu, who was being transported from Raipur to Ranchi by a special police team for interrogation, was in police remand when the vehicle carrying him was involved in an accident in Chainpur, Palamu.

Exploiting the situation, Sahu allegedly seized a police weapon and attempted to escape. When officers tried to apprehend him, he opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the security forces. Sahu sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Sahu's gang was infamous for its involvement in extortion, arson, murder, and firing incidents, particularly targeting coal transporters and businesses. Just three days prior to the encounter, members of his gang had opened fire on coal transporter Bipin Mishra in Ranchi's Bariatu Road area.

The Jharkhand Police had been engaged in extensive operations against the Aman Sahu gang, arresting over 30 of its members in the past year. However, the gang continued to terrorize coal businesses across Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh, demanding extortion money. The gang was also suspected of involvement in the murder of NTPC DGM Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribagh.
