Raipur/Bijapur, April 17 In a major anti-Maoist operation, security forces recovered a large quantity of explosive materials concealed by Maoists in the dense forests of Annapur under the jurisdiction of Annapur Police Station at Farsegad in Bijapur district.

Acting on credible intelligence during an area domination and de-mining exercise, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) discovered the hidden dump while conducting operations towards Pillur–Annaram.

The explosives had been cleverly concealed inside a white plastic water tank buried underground, a tactic often used by Maoist cadres to stockpile materials for improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The recovered materials included 50 kg of sulphur, approximately 100 kg of urea packed in two sacks, and 10 kg of gunpowder. These substances are commonly used by left-wing extremists to manufacture powerful explosives for ambushes and attacks on security personnel and civilians in the Bastar region.

Following strict safety protocols, the security forces destroyed the entire cache on-site to prevent any risk of accidental detonation or misuse. No casualties or injuries were reported during the recovery and destruction process.

This successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of security forces in the Maoist-affected areas of southern Chhattisgarh.

Bijapur district has long been a hotspot for Naxal activities, with frequent recoveries of IEDs and arms dumps in its rugged forest terrain.

The joint DRG-BDS team continues intensive search, area domination, and de-mining operations in the region to maintain pressure on remaining Maoist elements and ensure the safety of local residents.

Senior police officials have appealed to the people of Bijapur to remain alert. Citizens are urged to immediately report any suspicious objects, containers, or activities in the forests or surrounding areas to the nearest police station or security camp. Such public cooperation plays a vital role in preventing potential threats and strengthening counterinsurgency efforts.

This recovery is seen as a significant blow to Maoist logistical capabilities in the area. Security operations in Bijapur and other parts of the Bastar division are expected to intensify in the coming days as forces work towards restoring complete peace and normalcy in the region.
