A Delhi court has issued notice to Delhi Police after failing to file an FIR against streaming platform Netflix and social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) over alleged publishing pornographic and obscene content. The former Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar in his complaint alleged that the Delhi Police declined to register a case.

"We filed a complaint with Delhi Police against social media platforms like X and Netflix for using and airing obscene and pornographic content. Delhi Police did not take any action, so we have filed a complaint case before the Metropolitan Magistrate Saket," said advocate Vineet Jindal.

Mahurkar in his plea alleges that X and Netflix are publishing pornographic material without restrictions, raising concerns over its impact on young audiences. In a complaint it stated that the platform violated multiple laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Information Technology (IT) Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women Act.

The court has sought a response from Delhi Police, with the next hearing scheduled for May 22. "After so many legal issues, the court has issued notice to Delhi Police for seeking action report on our complaints, which is against specific social media giants. Now, the matter has been fixed for May 22," said advocate Jindal.
