Cong spokesperson tries hand at household chores amid lockdown

Amid a 21-day complete lockdown across the country to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, politic in Punjab who were stuck here after the curbs could be seen trying out their hands at household chores.

Among them, Congress spokesperson and lawyer Jaiveer Shergill who is in Punjab with his family after the lockdown was announced on Tuesday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is now separated from his parents who are in Delhi.

"I have learnt many things including flying planes but I don't know how to cook, even I can't boil an egg, but now I have taken up the challenge of learning 21 dishes during these 21 days", said Shergill

Speaking to on phone Shergill said: "I am trying my hands at household chores, reading books and spending time with family."

"Now I have come to know how important it is to be socially involved rather than hooked up in gadgets.

"The 21-day time is a long one, but we have to follow it for our own safety. The Prime Minister should ensure wages and implement 'Nyay' scheme so that poor do not suffer in this time of crisis", he added.

"21-day lockdown is a necessary step but if economic package for daily wagers, farmers, MSME & unemployment protection package is not announced immediately then the lockdown cure may worsen the economic disease beyond unimaginable proportions !! #COVID19 " tweeted Shergill.

The Congress has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi implement the minimum income guarantee scheme called "Nyay", which the party had promised but could not fulfil after its defeat in the election.

The Congress, in its manifesto, has said that 20 per cent poorest families in the country will get Rs 72,000 annually as part of its Nyunatam Aay Yojana (Nyay).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced complete lockdown for 21 days and allocated Rs 15,000 crore to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure to fight coronavirus in India.
