Bhopal, Feb 11 Congress on Tuesday appointed Jhabua MLA, Vikrant Bhuria as Chairman of All India Adivasi Congress.

The first-time MLA Bhuria, who is the son of veteran tribal leader and former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria, has replaced former chairman Shivjirao Moghe.

"Congress President has appointed Vikrant Bhuria as the chairman of the All India Adivasi Congress, with immediate effect. The party appreciate the contribution of the outgoing chairman Shivjirao Moghe," a notification issued by Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, reads.

Bhuria has previously served as the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress President.

He resigned from the post in April last year during the Lok Sabha elections and was replaced by Mitendra Darshan Singh as MP Youth Congress President.

His father Kantilal Bhuria, who is considered a prominent tribal leader in Madhya Pradesh, had served as the Tribal Minister from 2009 to 2011 during former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA government.

The powerful Bhuria family has a stronghold in tribal regions in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhuria (40) contested his first Assembly elections from his family bastion Jhabua and won in November 2023.
