The move comes just ahead of crucial state assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana to be held on October 21.

Rohan Gupta is from Ahmedabad and is close to party treasurer and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Ahmed Patel. Rohan tweeted after the announcement, "My heartfelt thanks to Soniaji and Rahul Gandhiji for giving this responsibility."

Rohan Gupta was appointed Media co-ordinator in AICC media cell in 2016. Before this assignment he was Head of the IT cell Gujarat Congress.

Divya Spandana is close aide of Rahul Gandhi. Before Divya, Congress Haryana chief Ashok Tanwar had to face the exit.

Jharkhand Congress chief Ajoy Kumar was also replaced and he had joined Aam Aadmi Party.

After Sonia Gandhi took over as interim President on August 10, the axis of old guards has taken over the party. This is evident from series of decisions taken by Sonia which has irked the young turks.

While Ajoy Kumar has left the party, former Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar is sulking. He has boycotted the meetings called by Hooda and Kumari Selja.

In Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot has consolidated his position while Sachin Pilot is unhappy. The Congress is mulling to replace Pilot and bring him to party organisation.

A leader close to Pilot said that he is not willing to leave state president post but Gehlot is insisting on one man-one post formula.

In Madhya Pradesh, there is open war between Kamal Nath and Jyotiradiya Scindia. While Nath has the backing of Digvijaya Singh, Scindia has his own suppor base. Minister like Umang Singhar has openly supported Scindia, who wants to become state President.

Rahul's closest aide Milind Deora has all praises for Prime Minister Modi, which has not gone down well with the old guards.
