New Delhi, March 14 Amid the coronavirus scare, the wholesale markets of Delhi are still crowded with a large number of people being seen in Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest markets in Delhi.
Among the customers who came for shopping here, only a few were aware of coronavirus.
The maximum crowd was seen at Nai Sadak in Chandni Chowk, which is famous for women's wear. People, specially women, not only from Delhi-NCR but from other areas also come here for shopping.
Four women who came here for shopping on Saturday said: "The danger of disease is everywhere. For how many days we will remain inside homes? We run a small shop in Sonipat for which we have to come to Chandni Chowk every 15 days to buy sarees, lehangas, suits etc. Even today, we have come here for shopping by local train."
The streets of Nai Sadak are so narrow that two people can't walk together in them. On Saturday also, the streets of this market were full of customers, shopkeepers and people working in the shops.
Abhilasha Chaudhary, who lives in Rohini Sector 3 and came here on Saturday, said: "I was blessed with a grandson just a few days ago. We have decided to give sarees as gifts to relatives on the naming ceremony of my grandson. We have come here to buy sarees only. Coronavirus is only for those who have come from abroad."
Dariba Kalan, another market in Chandni Chowk, was also crowded. Hasrat, who came here with her husband, said: "We have come here to buy anklets. We are aware about the coronavirus, but we will have to come out of our homes for important work."
Rajesh Kumar, a camera shop owner said: "There is a fear of coronavirus among the people but still customers are coming to the market but if the situation continues to be the same in future also then things might change."
