COVID-19 hits India's cleanest city, spurt in MP cases

Coronavirus struck India's cleanest city on Wednesday as four positive cases were reported from Indore and one from nearby temple town of Ujjain where there was a sudden spurt in cases.

Bhopal, March 25 Coronavirus struck India's cleanest city on Wednesday as four positive cases were reported from Indore and one from nearby temple town of Ujjain where there was a sudden spurt in cases.

Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal also reported another positive case on Wednesday as the total jumped to 15 in just over a week.

In a freak chain of events a journalist who had attended former Chief Minister Kamal Nath's press meet last Friday and then received his daughter returning from England tested positive on Saturday.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Sudhir Kumar Dehria said everyone who contacted the journalist is required to remain in home isolation for 14 days. Samples of 10 persons who met the girl or were sent for examination. Out of them, 9 people tested negative while the report of his mother, brother, people working at home has come negative. Only the journalist tested positive and was admitted to AIIMS Bhopal. Dr Dehria said there was no need to panic.

Indore and Ujjain cases were confirmed at 4.00 a.m. on Wednesday. Three of these patients are admitted to Bombay Hospital, one to Arihant Hospital and one to MY Hospital. Three patients belong to one family who had visited Rishikesh a week ago. The contact history of the others is being traced. Collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav of Indore has imposed curfew in the town.

On Tuesday two men tested positive for coronavirus in Gwalior and Shivpuri districts, an official said. Earlier, six COVID-19 cases were reported from Jabalpur, while a woman was found positive for the viral infection in Bhopal on Sunday.
