COVID-19 lockdown: Delhi Metro services shut till April 14

The Delhi Metro Rail Cooperation (DMRC) on Thursday announced that its services would be shut till April 14 due to the national lockdown imposed by the Centre to curb the spread of coronavirus.

New Delhi [India], Mar 26 : The Delhi Metro Rail Cooperation (DMRC) on Thursday announced that its services would be shut till April 14 due to the national lockdown imposed by the Centre to curb the spread of coronavirus.

"We have received a few queries regarding the tenure of the closure of the metro services. It is hereby informed that, in light of the lockdown issued by the government, metro services will remain closed till April 14, 2020," the announcement read.

In his address to the nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country beginning Tuesday midnight to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.

According to the Union health ministry bulletin, the number of cases in Delhi is 34

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases has climbed to 649 in the country, including 593 active cases, 42 cured or discharged people and 13 deaths, it added.
