A house collapsed in the Sabzi Mandi area of Delhi on Wednesday, with several people feared trapped under the debris. The collapse occurred following a heavy downpour in the city. Five fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to assist with the rescue efforts.

"We received a call at 8:57 pm regarding the collapse of a house in the Sabji Mandi area close to Ghanta Ghar near Robin Cinema. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot," an official said as quoted by PTI.

Delhi experienced over 100 millimetres of rainfall within an hour, leading to significant waterlogging and prompting the weather office to issue a 'red' warning. The National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin also identified Delhi as an area of concern.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the Pragati Maidan observatory in central Delhi recorded 112.5 mm of rainfall in just one hour.  In response to the situation, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor cautioned officials via X to stay alert due to the heavy rain. He directed them to minimize inconvenience and address issues, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging, such as coaching centres.

The IMD forecasts continued light to moderate rainfall across Delhi for the next two hours, with possible thunderstorms, lightning, and surface winds reaching 50 kilometres per hour. The department has advised the public to stay indoors, secure windows and doors, and avoid unnecessary travel. The 'red' warning calls for heightened action and vigilance.

Following the downpour, multiple areas, including Lutyen's Delhi, Kashmere Gate, and Rajinder Nagar, experienced flooding. In south Delhi’s Qutub Minar area, vehicles were seen navigating through waterlogged streets as traffic police managed the situation.
