New Delhi, May 12 Delhi-NCR is likely to witness a sudden and significant change in weather conditions on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a ‘yellow alert’ for Tuesday.

According to the Meteorological Department, the day is expected to remain overcast, with the possibility of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Weather activity is likely to intensify during the afternoon, evening, and night hours. The wind speed may reach between 40 and 50 kmph.

As per the local weather forecast issued by the IMD, the maximum temperature on Tuesday is expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle at 27 degrees Celsius. The department has warned of “thunderstorms with rain” throughout the day, indicating rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning activity.

According to the IMD, the forenoon hours may witness very light to light rainfall along with thunder and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate further during the afternoon, with a likelihood of squally winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph along with lightning strikes.

Similar weather conditions are likely to continue during the evening and night, with light rainfall expected in several areas across the NCR. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain cautious and vigilant during this period.

People have been urged to avoid standing in open spaces or taking shelter under trees and electric poles during thunderstorms. Traffic movement may also be affected due to heavy winds and rain. Farmers and those engaged in construction activities have been advised to take necessary precautions.

Looking ahead, partly cloudy skies and the possibility of thunderstorms are expected to persist on May 13 as well. The maximum temperature on Wednesday is likely to remain around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle at 26 degrees Celsius.

However, weather conditions are expected to improve from May 14 onwards. The temperature is likely to rise gradually, with forecasts indicating 37/25 degrees Celsius on May 14, 38/26 degrees on May 15, 39/27 degrees on May 16, and 40/27 degrees Celsius on May 17.

The skies are expected to remain mostly clear during these days, and no weather warnings have been issued so far.

Weather experts have attributed the sudden change in NCR weather conditions to the influence of a Western Disturbance and local meteorological activity. For now, residents may experience temporary relief from the heat due to rain and strong winds. An improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) is also expected following the weather change.

Meanwhile, AQI levels recorded across several areas included Anand Vihar at 193, Aya Nagar at 147, Bawana at 172, Chandni Chowk at 125, DTU at 142, Dwarka Sector-8 at 180, IIT Delhi at 146, JNU at 122, Nehru Nagar at 175, R.K. Puram at 141, Rohini at 192, Sonia Vihar at 165, and Wazirpur at 194.
