New Delhi, May 19 NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra on Tuesday chose to travel by Delhi Metro while commuting to his Palika Kendra office and appealed to employees and citizens to use green mobility options in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to save fuel.

Chandra, along with his colleagues and senior officers, took the Metro from Lok Kalyan Marg to Rajiv Chowk, then an electric auto to reach the Office.

Upon reaching the office, Chandra also convened the weekly Senior Officers Meeting (SoM) virtually from the Headquarters, promoting the use of digital platforms to minimise travel and reduce fuel consumption among officers stationed outside the Headquarters building.

This initiative underscored NDMC’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible practices, reducing carbon footprint, and encouraging the use of public transport among citizens and officials alike, said a statement.

The Chairman aimed to inspire a collective shift towards sustainable urban mobility and efficient resource utilisation.

Chandra said that, inspired by the nationwide appeal of PM Modi for fuel conservation, energy efficiency, and the promotion of clean, green, and sustainable transportation, the NDMC has launched several major green mobility initiatives to encourage eco-friendly transportation in New Delhi, as the Heart of the national capital.

He said that NDMC has decided to provide a special 50 per cent concession in parking charges for Electric Vehicles (EVs) at all notified parking sites.

He also informed that with the objective of providing convenient, economical, and environment-friendly transport facilities to employees, EV Auto service has been introduced from May 15 between Palika Kendra and nearby Metro Stations and SBS Gole Market.

The EV Auto service is available between the different locations: Palika Kendra and nearby Metro Stations — Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, and Janpath, Palika Kendra and SBS Gole Market, and various field offices/divisions of NDMC

As part of NDMC’s green transportation initiative, NDMC has also introduced Bus Shuttle Service from the civic agency’s housing complexes located in various locations in New Delhi/Delhi to Palika Kendra for employees, he said.

The bus shuttle service has been introduced in major NDMC housing complexes, including Palika Awas Sarojini Nagar, Amrit Kal Niwas, Jor Bagh, Bapu Dham Chanakyapuri, Valmiki Sadan, Mandir Marg, and nearby Council residential colonies, as well as Rohini and Saket Residential Complex, in order to provide better and more convenient public transport facilities to employees and residents.

Chandra stated that NDMC remains committed to the realisation of the vision of “Green India” and “Sustainable Urban Development,” and will continue working to make New Delhi a cleaner, greener, modern, and environmentally sustainable city.
