Delhi Police conducted a verification drive in Sangam Vihar on Thursday to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, following a directive from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena in January to launch a special mission targeting such immigrants in Delhi. A Sangam Vihar resident told ANI that police questioned her about her arrival and checked her Aadhaar card, despite her being from Kolkata and residing in Delhi for a year.

Earlier this week, Delhi Police officials agreed to intensify efforts to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Saxena's January directive also included an outreach program to educate the public on the importance of verifying employees and domestic workers for security reasons, urging Resident Welfare Associations and Shopkeeper Associations to conduct antecedent verification before employment. He warned that employers housing illegal immigrants without verification could face legal action.

In February, Delhi Police apprehended 16 individuals suspected of illegally overstaying their visas and sent them to a detention center after FRRO ordered their deportation. Separately, on February 7, Mumbai's RCF police arrested seven Bangladeshi citizens allegedly living illegally in Chembur's Mahul village for five years. On February 6, Nashik Police arrested eight Bangladeshi nationals after a raid on a construction site based on intelligence.
