New Delhi, March 23 Despite Delhi government's order issued on Sunday to seal its borders with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, massive traffic jams were witnessed at the Delhi-Noida and Gurugram border on Monday.

With the orders, the borders of adjoining cities have been shut and no vehicles are being allowed to ply through the tolls.

While people stood at the border requesting authorities to allow them to cross the state border, the authorities advised commuters to follow Sunday orders and return back from the borders.

According to an official posted at Delhi-Gurugram border, an ambulance carrying a patient was also stuck in a traffic jam and could move ahead only after over half an hour.

A video of the traffic jam at the Delhi-Noida border showed chaos on the street as locals gathered at the spot and requested authorities to allow movement of vehicles.

Delhi government on Sunday had said that borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will be sealed from early Monday as the national capital goes for a lockdown till March 31.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, however, announced that essential items from neighbouring states - food items like vegetables, milk etc. will keep coming.

"Lockdown in Delhi from Monday 6 a.m. to March 31 midnight. The borders will be sealed and only essential items will be allowed," Kejriwal had said.
