Kolkata, April 4 BJP leader and Kharagpur candidate Dilip Ghosh on Saturday accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of undermining constitutional institutions and fostering lawlessness in the state.
Speaking to IANS, Ghosh said, “People see how far the government and the administration of Mamata Banerjee have come. They are challenging the Home Minister; a black flag was shown to the Prime Minister. Black flag for the Election Commissioner. Ignoring the President, humiliating her, what is left? They don't even listen to the Supreme Court's instructions. We believe in one country, one law.”
The BJP leader also spoke about the Malda case, alleging political patronage and irregularities. “This is an interesting thing. When the CBI or ED comes, they immediately become active. The arrested person was seen with Mamata Banerjee. Why did we have to arrest him today? Because he has been exposed. It's not just Malda. We have been talking about this for a long time,” he told IANS.
Raising concerns over voter lists, Ghosh further claimed, “50 per cent names have been removed from each booth. No one has come to fill out the form. The verification has shown that 50 lakh people have not come. Even now, their names are being removed. More than one crore fake voters, who are foreigners, are here. People who do anti-national activities take shelter in Bengal. Why? Because of Didi.”
Meanwhile, the Malda case has taken a serious turn, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar handing over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency earlier on Friday. An NIA team is probing this case.
The development follows strong observations by the Supreme Court of India, which took serious note of an incident where seven judicial officials engaged in an SIR exercise were allegedly taken hostage in Malda district. The apex court termed the situation “deplorable” and sought responses from the state Home Secretary, Director General of Police, and other officials over their inaction.
The court directed the Election Commission to initiate a probe through central agencies such as the CBI or NIA and to ensure immediate security for judicial officers, including the deployment of central forces if necessary. The investigating agency is expected to submit a preliminary report to the Supreme Court on April 6.
