In shocking turnoff events a 90-year-old woman, Mohini Trivedi, was mauled to death by her German Shepherd in Kanpur's Vikas Nagar during Holi celebrations on March 14. The incident occurred while she was feeding the dog, which had become increasingly aggressive, even injuring her grandson, Dheeru Prashant Trivedi, and daughter-in-law, Kiran, in the past.
Following the fatal attack, the municipal corporation captured the dog. Dheeru has since pleaded for its return, stating his family has been unable to eat since its removal and offering to take full responsibility for any future incidents.
Despite the plea, municipal officials, led by Dr. RK Niranjan, are hesitant due to the dog's violent behavior, which is currently under observation. Sushil Singh, who led the capture, described the dog's extreme aggression and explained that the family's lack of a formal complaint prevented police action. The incident has caused widespread fear in Vikas Nagar, with residents questioning the safety of returning the dog to the neighborhood.
