Wild elephants wreaked havoc in Jharkhand Hazaribagh in the early hours of Friday, February 13, as four members of a family among six killed, two children were among the victims after ha erd of wild elephants attacked villages. The incident took place in Ango Gondwar Bhuiya Toli village in the Churchu block.
The police said a herd of five elephants entered the village around 2 am. The elephants first lifted Dhaneshwar Ram, 60, with their trunks and threw him into Suraj Ram’s courtyard. When Suraj Ram’s family rushed out to rescue him, the herd trampled them.

Those killed included Suraj Ram (60), Madhu Devi (22), her one-and-a-half-year-old son, and her approximately four-year-old daughter. Suman Devi (20), and Dhaneshwar Ram (60), also died. A four-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital. Suman Devi had reportedly returned to her parents’ home from her in-laws’ house just two days earlier.
Police and forest department teams reached the spot soon after receiving the information. Fear continues to grip the village. The forest department has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and said the process will begin soon. Villagers have demanded immediate measures to curb the growing threat of elephant attacks.
