An encounter has started between security forces and terrorists at Awantipora in South Kashmir, officials said.
Police said the encounter began at Sharahali Khrew area during the wee hours on Wednesday.
Security forces had a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.
A joint operation by the army and police was started. A cordon was laid which is fired upon by the hiding militants that triggered the encounter.
Police said the security forces are on the job.
