Kolkata, March 1 Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday asked the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos to ensure counter-terrorism operations are finished in minimum time with minimum losses in their ranks, and called for modifying the forces combat strategies, use of technology and training to bring changes in the personnel's priorities.
"You are doing counter-terrorism operation, counter-hijack operation. I also feel that there is a great need for you to ensure how an operation can be completed in minimum time," Shah said here after inaugurating a Special Composite Group Complex of NSG.
He said nowadays, perpetrators of terror strikes take part in such activity knowing fully well they are going to die.
"But their target is to sustain the fear of terror for the longest possible time in this country of 130 crore people. Our triumph will lie in ending the terror strike in the minimum time with the minimum losses in our ranks. We need this sort of training," said Shah who is on a day's trip to the city.
Shah said the NSG can to do a lot in these areas.
"We have to bring modifications in our combat strategy, technology. And the training must also include ushering in changes in the jawans' priorities, because nowadays, everything comes into the public domain. And every incident reaches the country of 130 crore people. If you can finish it in he minimum time, then I feel that is our victory and their defeat," he said.
Shah assured the NSG that the Narendra Modi government at the centre was committed to fulfilling all their expectations and make it the most highly equipped commando force
"NSG is moving ahead. But similarly, terrorists worldwide are also moving ahead... We will provide you with all techniques to keep you two steps ahead. We will also ensure you are aware of all terror incidents or the techniques being used by the terrorists across the globe," said Shah.
He said the task would be completed within a scheduled timeframe.
Shah said the centre was trying to lay down a system so that jawans can spend at least 100 days in a year with their families.
"We want to create a lot fo facilities at the sites where the security forces are stationed. We have prepared a time bound programme in this regard, and I am myself monitoring its implementation," he added.
Shah said the government could give the jawans facilities like good technology, good housing and other facilities, think about the welfare of their with utmost sincerity, but ultimately battles against terrorists have to be won by the jawans by fighting with guts.
"When you come face to face with terrorists, then it is the jawan's guts which makes him victorious. Weapons and technology cannot replace guts and determination," he said.
Addressing the NSG top brass, he said the forces have to be trained to show zero tolerance to terrorism.
