Energy consumption dipped under AAP govt: Sandeep Dikshit

Claiming that Delhi's average energy consumption has come down under the Arvind Kejriwal government, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday said that this is the "best example of false facts" put by the AAP that they are giving 24 hours electricity supply.

Citing data, Dikshit said that when Congress leader Sheila Dikshit took over as Chief Minister in 1998, the average energy consumption was 1,170 units per year per household, but when she lost power in 2013, it had increased to 1,650 units and this had come down to 1,570 units per household under the Aam Aadmi Party regime.

With the consumption decreasing, it means there is no 24x7 supply, he said, adding that under Sheila Dikshit, sales of ACs rose and those of inverters dipped and the number of faulty transformers also decreased.

Praising Kejriwal for reducing the tariff, he, however, said that there is a flaw as he said in 2013 that he will reduce the money going to power discoms BSES and NDPL but had done the opposite. He has not reduced the money to the service provider but increased the subsidy, Dikshit said, asking if there is any quid pro quo with the BSES.

Dikshit also said that the power procurement was 2,500 MW earlier but was increased to 6,000 MW. Crediting Sheila Dikshit, he said that she started 24 hour electricity and also curbed power theft, which was earlier 55 per cent but reduced to 12 to 15 per cent. "Though it was a bad politics, she had done it despite risks," he added.

He alleged that Kejriwal levelled charges of faulty meters but during his regime, no meter was replaced.
