Chandigarh, Feb 27 Former Pataudi MLA and former chairman of Haryana Education Board Rambir Singh, who resigned from the priority membership of the Congress this month, was suspended from the party for six years for indulging in “anti-party activities”.

Singh had accused the Congress of nepotism while announcing his resignation at his residence in Pataudi on February 16.

The development comes days after Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Udai Bhan expelled former MLA from Radaur seat of Yamunanagar, Bishanlal Saini, for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Yamunanagar.

Describing Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini as a good human being, Rambir Singh said there was no possibility of the Congress returning to power in the state in 10 years.

He said he would contest the Municipal Council elections as an Independent candidate. He said being a local, he had knowledge of every problem of the area and he could get any development work done better than any other candidate.

He blamed factionalism within the Congress for its decimation in the state and blamed Member of Parliament Deependra Hooda for party’s loss.

“He kept deceiving all the ticket candidates in the assembly elections. First, the name of the son-in-law of the state Congress president was put forward. Then, he replaced the local candidate and gave the ticket to a daughter-in-law from Bihar. Due to these reasons, Congress suffered a defeat in Pataudi. Now, the niece of the state Congress president is being given a ticket in the council elections as well,” former MLA Rambir Singh was quoted as saying.

Likewise, former legislator Saini, who was with the Congress for 10 years, blamed the internal conflicts among senior Congress leaders as his reason behind leaving the party.
