Gurugram, March 6 The Cyber Crime team of the Gurugram police busted an illegal call centre on Saturday operating at Nirvana Courtyard in Sector-50 and arrested one person in connection with the case.

The call centre often used to cheat US nationals on the pretext of providing technical support, the police said.

While duping their clients, they used to conceal their identity as service provider of the company.

According to the police, a team of the Cyber Crime police station led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (DLF), Karan Goyal, raided the call centre located at plot number C-406, Sector-50 Nirvana Courtyard in Gurugram following a tip-off.

During the raid, the police arrested one person and seized a mobile phone and a laptop along with other electronic gadgets.

The accused has been identified as Ayush, who originally hails from Panipat and currently resides in Gurugram. He was the owner of the fake call centre titled 'Easy Global Solutions Pvt. Ltd'.

During the raid, the police found 10 men and women working at the fake call centre and communicating with US nationals. However, after questioning, the police have released the people employed there.

"We received specific inputs that a fake call centre had cheated several US nationals on the pretext of technical support. The people were employed at the call centre which was being operated without a license issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT)," said ACP (DLF), Karan Goyal.

"During the questioning, the accused Ayush revealed that he used to communicate with US citizens to provide technical support such as printer repairing of several companies and used to charge $ 200 to $ 300 via e-gift redeemed card. Ayush used to work in a Delhi-based call centre a year back from where he got an idea to cheat American citizens," he added.

"The matter is under investigation. How the accused was operating the fake call centre is part of the investigation. The involvement of other people cannot be ruled out. The culprit Ayush is in police remand for further questioning," the police official said.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act has been registered at the Cyber Crime police station.
