Shaktikanta Das, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as Principal Secretary II to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official notification from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

The notification stated, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shaktikanta Das, IAS (Retired) (TN:80), as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister, effective upon his assumption of office." It also noted that his appointment will be co-terminus with the Prime Minister's term or until further notice.

Shaktikanta Das served as RBI Governor from December 2018 to December 2024, taking office on December 12, 2018. He has held key roles in the Department of Revenue and the Department of Economic Affairs within the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

With 38 years of experience in governance, Das has worked in various sectors, including Finance, Taxation, Industries, and Infrastructure. He was directly involved in preparing eight Union Budgets during his tenure in the Ministry of Finance and has represented India as an Alternate Governor in institutions such as the World Bank, ADB, NDB, and AIIB. Shaktikanta Das holds a postgraduate degree from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. Pramod Kumar Mishra serves as the Principal Secretary I to the Prime Minister and is a 1972-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Gujarat cadre.
