Frantic search for panther as panic spreads in Jaipur

A panther, which entered the posh area in the Jaipur city on Thursday remained untraceable till Friday morning, even after the intensive 16-hour search operation by the wildlife officials and police teams.

On Friday morning, the panther location was confirmed around the SMS stadium and, hence, the forest department accompanied by the police personnel were deputed at the venue. They came along with a cage hoping to catch the elusive panther.

A senior forest official said: "As there were many people coming for a morning walk, jogging and practice at the stadium, we are waiting for them to go so that we can search it intensively."

On Thursday, the panther was traced in a residence in Takhteshahi area, which is considered as one of the posh locations of the city, then it was seen near the Narayan Singh Hotel. Later in late night, the panther was seen at the SMS school due to which the school management declared a holiday a in the school. From here the panther location moved to the Subodh College and, hence, a holiday was declared there too on Friday.

The forest officials said that drones were being used during the daytime, however, they went ineffective at night. Meanwhile, forest department started the search operation again with the drone on the Friday morning.

Wildlife officer Arindam Tomar said that the wild animals come out of the jungle searching for food and get lost in the process. "So, this seems like a lost panther," he added.
