New Delhi, April 14 Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Tuesday described the newly inaugurated Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor as a game-changer, hoping that it will serve as an “artery of progress” to enhance the ease of living for millions of NCR residents.
In a message on X, the LG said, “The inauguration of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiJi marks yet another historic milestone in India’s infrastructure journey. This Rs 11,868 crore mega project stands as a powerful testament to his transformative vision, coupled with the dynamic execution led by Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @nitin_gadkari Ji, bringing world-class connectivity closer to citizens.”
Sandhu said, “For the residents of Delhi, this expressway is truly a game-changer. It will reduce travel time to Dehradun from nearly 6 hours to just over 2.5 hours. With seamless, signal-free connectivity beginning from key points such as Akshardham, Geeta Colony, and Shastri Park, it promises to significantly decongest city roads while catalysing regional trade, tourism, and economic activity.”
“Equally noteworthy is the project’s strong commitment to sustainability. The inclusion of Asia’s largest elevated wildlife corridor ensures the protection of natural habitats, reflecting a balanced and forward-looking approach to development and environmental stewardship,” he said.
This corridor is not merely a highway - it is an artery of progress that will enhance the ease of living for millions across the National Capital Region and beyond, said Sandhu.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor in Dehradun and described it as a world-class infrastructure project that will deepen connectivity and boost tourism in the region.
He said that his government was working wholeheartedly to build roads, highways, and major infrastructure projects. He also cited fund allocations, before 2014 and after 2014, to differentiate the thrust on building big-ticket infrastructure.
“In the UPA era, the national expenditure on infrastructure projects amounted to Rs 2 lakh crore, but today that stands at Rs 12 lakh crore. Out of this, about Rs 2.25 lakh crore is being spent in Uttarakhand for creating world-class infrastructure,” said PM Modi.
