On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary. He emphasized that Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence, and Swadeshi had played a crucial role in India’s freedom struggle. The chief minister stated that, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Uttar Pradesh government had announced a 25% discount on Khadi. He urged people to buy Swadeshi products, especially Khadi, and to gift them to their family, friends, and well-wishers during festivals. He explained that using indigenous goods would not only support Indian artisans and handicraftsmen but also contribute to the nation’s prosperity while creating opportunities for self-employment and employment within the country.
He said, "Today is Gandhi Jayanti, so on this auspicious occasion, the Uttar Pradesh government has started a 25% discount on Khadi. We should purchase every Swadeshi product, including Khadi. Gift it to your friends, family, and well-wishers during festivals. And if we contribute to the advancement of Indian artisans and handicraftsmen by using products made in India, it will lead to India's prosperity and also help promote self-employment and employment within India."
Further mentioning about Diwali, Adityanath added that, ahead of Diwali, he had instructed the department to organize large-scale Swadeshi fairs in every district, modeled after the UP International Trade Show. He also spoke about the importance of the cleanliness campaign, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had elevated the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to new heights, making cleanliness both an identity and a brand of India. He remarked that the program was a true gift of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. He further asserted that the double-engine government was working to realize Gandhi’s vision for the country, and concluded by offering his humble tribute on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh.
