A disturbing case of violence involving a tourist has emerged from Goa, where staff members of a beach shack allegedly assaulted visitors for using sunbeds at Calangute Beach. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, capturing uniformed workers attacking the tourist with objects resembling pipes. The episode is said to have occurred on Tuesday. Reports indicate that the victim, a resident of Bengaluru, sustained injuries during the assault. The visuals have sparked outrage, raising serious concerns about tourist safety and the conduct of beach shack operators in one of India’s most popular coastal destinations.
According to reports, the confrontation began after the tourist took a swim in the sea and later sat on a beach bed, which led to an argument with the shack staff. The situation quickly worsened as nearly 15 to 20 workers allegedly ganged up on him, using iron rods and pipes to attack him. Authorities have taken action by arresting members of the shack staff involved in the incident. A detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events and fix accountability in connection with the violent episode.
Reacting to the incident, Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte described the occurrence at Calangute Beach as “serious.” He stated that authorities have issued a show-cause notice to the shack concerned, seeking an explanation for the incident. “Authorities have issued a show-cause notice to the shack involved, demanding an explanation,” he said. “Failing a response, action will be taken against the shack,” he added, indicating that strict measures would follow if the shack fails to justify its actions.
