In a shocking turn of events, a 50-year-old woman allegedly killed her daughter’s one-year-old son by banging his head against a wall and stuffing his mouth with a biscuit wrapper on Tuesday. The accused, identified as R Nagalakshi, was arrested by the police on Thursday.As per the case details, Nagalakshi was living in a rented house on Anbagam Street in Coimbatore. She worked as a housekeeper at a hotel. Around five years ago, her daughter Nandhini (24) tied the nuptial knot with one Nithyanandam, a call taxi owner-cum-driver by profession. Nagalakshi held grudge against Nithyanandam, as her daughter has solemnised marriage with him against her wishes. Meanwhile, Nandhini and Nithyanandam were blessed with two children - Saikrishna and Durgesh, now aged four and one respectively.
The police officer stated that around eight months ago, Nandhini left her husband over differences of opinion and shifted to her mother’s house. She brought her younger son along with her while leaving the elder son in the care of her estranged husband, according to a report by The Times of India.For the last few days, Nagalakshi was not well; therefore, Nandhini began working at the hotel as a temporary replacement for her mother. “When she returned from work on Tuesday around 9:30 pm, Nandhini inquired her mother about her son, as he wasn’t seen around. Nagalakshi told her that Durgesh had slept around 7:30 pm and she had put him in the cradle. When Nandhini noticed that her child wasn’t breathing, she took him to a private hospital at Saibaba Colony, where doctors declared him brought dead,” the report quoted the officer as saying. Following this, Nandhini filed a police complaint in connection with the death of her minor son. The police, on the basis of the complaint, filed a case under CrPC Section 174 and sent the boy’s body for post-mortem examination. The post-mortem report stated that the deceased child’s skull had a crack and a biscuit wrapper was found in his throat. Consequently, the CrPC case was enhanced to murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and inquiries were initiated.
