Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his greetings to the people of the country on the occasion of Guru Purnima. "Let me begin by conveying my greetings on Ashadha Poornima, it is also known as Guru Purnima, this is a day to remember our Gurus, who gave us knowledge."

The President of India also greeted the nation on the occasion tweeting, "The day is also known as Guru Purnima. Hindus and Jains also celebrate it as a mark of reverence for their spiritual teachers. This day is an unbroken link to India’s eternal pursuit of wisdom without dogma." To mark the occasion of Guru Purnima, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a video message on the occasion to emphasize the teachings of peace and justice of Lord Buddha and the Eight Fold Path shown by him to overcome sufferings of sentient beings. 

The programme was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind and Union Ministers Prahlad Patel and Kiren Rijiju addressed the opening ceremony. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the entire programme was conducted virtually which was witnessed by around 30 lakh devotees worldwide through live webcast.
