In an tragic accident five members from the same family lost their lives and five people, including an autorickshaw driver were critically injured after speeding car rammed into overloaded auto rickshaw in Gwalior’s Thatipur area. This incident occurred on early Friday morning, March 27, 2026. According to report, collision occurred around 3 AM near the Jain temple ahead of the Parshuram intersection.
Returning home from prayers at the Sheetla Mata temple near the bus stand, a family of nine was struck by an SUV. The force of the impact sent their autorickshaw flying before it crashed into a roadside neem tree, leaving the passengers with little chance of survival.
The deceased have been identified as Shubham alias Lali Shakya, his wife Shagun, his paternal uncle Indrajit alias Pappu Shakya, Indrajit's wife Leela, and Shubham's mother-in-law Preeti from Meerut. The injured include Preeti, a younger relative of Shubham, his two sons Priyansh and Aarav, and another family member.
The autorickshaw driver sustained severe head injuries and is in critical condition. All injured individuals are receiving treatment at the trauma centre. Police report that the SUV driver was driving recklessly, having previously collided with a car near the bus stand. A police patrol attempted to stop the SUV, but it continued at high speed, ultimately crashing into the autorickshaw and a tree.
A driver in an SUV caused a fatal accident due to rash and negligent driving, according to City Superintendent of Police Atul Kumar Soni. The driver attempted to escape but was caught by local residents and turned over to the police. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to determine if intoxication or speeding were factors.
Post-mortem examinations of the deceased are underway. The accident has deeply affected residents of Suresh Nagar, Thatipur, and Murar, who are raising concerns about traffic rule enforcement, especially regarding overloaded autorickshaws and reckless night driving.
